The three WCAG 2.1 levels

Level AAA

Excellence

The highest level. Very difficult to reach in full. Recommended for critical public service websites or sites built specifically for people with disabilities.

Everything in Level AA

What people ask me most about web accessibility

For the public sector and large companies (more than 100 employees or over €6M in turnover), web accessibility is required by Royal Decree 1112/2018. For the private sector generally it isn't currently mandatory in Spain, but there is a clear regulatory trend towards requiring it. The European Accessibility Act widens the scope from 2025.

Yes, directly. Well-written alt text helps image SEO. Correct semantic structure (h1, h2, aria-labels) makes it easier for Google to crawl. An accessible website is usually faster and better structured too, which improves user experience and search ranking signals.

Level A is the basic minimum. Level AA is the recommended standard and the one legally required in Spain for the public sector. Level AAA is the strictest and rarely required. For most small business websites, level AA is the realistic and sufficient target.

The audit takes 5-7 working days for a site of 5-10 pages. The remediation afterwards depends on how many errors are found; it usually takes another 2-4 weeks. For large sites or ones with many errors, it can take longer.

Yes. WordPress has good accessibility support. Problems usually come from poorly coded themes, plugins that generate non-semantic HTML, or Elementor layouts built without good practice. All of that is fixable, though sometimes it means adjusting the theme's code.

Do you know whether your website is
accessible to everyone?

Most websites have accessibility errors without realising it. Request an audit and find out before it becomes a legal or commercial problem.
